We will be closed on Thursday, November 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. Our CPA firm, Yount, Hyde & Barbour, P.C. (YHB) is currently conducting an annual member verification as part of the audit of the Credit Union. If your account is selected for confirmation, the letter will be mailed from YHB’s Winchester Virginia office and will request that you respond to that same Winchester address using a postage-paid self-addressed envelope. We encourage you to respond to this confirmation request to ensure an efficient audit process. Drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any branch for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program now through December 12.

Watch Out for QR Code Scams (a.k.a. “Quishing”)

Scammers are now using QR codes to trick people into visiting fake websites and giving up personal information.

QR codes are everywhere — restaurants, billboards, flyers, even emails. But scammers are now using them to trick people into visiting fake websites and giving up personal information. This type of fraud is called quishing.

Here are some simple ways to protect yourself:

Think Before You Scan

  • Only scan QR codes from trusted sources.
  • If you see a QR code in a public place, check if it looks tampered with — like a sticker over another code or poor print quality.

Inspect the Link

  • Before tapping a QR code, hover your phone’s camera over it to preview the link.
  • If the link looks strange or unfamiliar, don’t click it.

Be Wary of Unexpected Messages

  • Don’t scan QR codes from texts or emails you didn’t expect — especially if they urge you to act fast.
  • Scammers often fake names and logos to look legit. Always go directly to a trusted website or call a verified number.

Spot the Red Flags

  • Look out for misspellings, bad grammar, or anything that feels off.
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Keep Your Info Safe

  • Peake Federal Credit Union will never ask for your login, passwords, or two-factor codes.
  • Use strong passwords and keep your phone updated with the latest security patches.

Report It

  • If you see a suspicious QR code using our name or logo, let us know right away.
  • You can also report scams to local law enforcement or the Federal Trade Commission.
